Hair & scalp disease

Hair loss has many causes, and getting the right diagnosis is the difference between treatments that work and treatments that don't. We evaluate the scalp, review your history, and order targeted lab work when appropriate.

What it is.

Common causes include androgenetic alopecia (pattern hair loss), telogen effluvium (stress- or illness-driven shedding), alopecia areata (autoimmune patchy loss), seborrheic dermatitis, and scarring alopecias that require prompt treatment to prevent permanent loss.

How we treat it.

Treatment depends entirely on the cause. Options include topical and oral minoxidil, finasteride or spironolactone, intralesional corticosteroid injections, anti-inflammatory shampoos, and, for scarring alopecias, early systemic therapy to halt progression.

When to come in.

If you're shedding more than usual for more than three months, noticing thinning at the part or temples, or have any patchy loss, scaling, or scalp pain, schedule an evaluation.
